Acid Reflux Relief Starts with Nutrition
Acid reflux occurs when the contents of the stomach flow back up from the stomach to the throat. It is called by many names but the symptoms are generally the same. Our digestive system uses hydrochloric acid to digest and process food. When stomach contents try to go back up the esophagus, it causes the feeling of heartburn.
A short term solution may appear to be the over the counter drugs that are heavily advertised. But carefully consider other options as these drugs can create additional nutritional deficiencies. It may not be an instant cure, but the best solution is to make adjustments to your diet. Eliminating foods which may have caused the acid reflux condition should provide relief, and within a few months you should find your stomach has had a chance to settle down considerably. It may take a while, but if the number of times you experience heartburn decreases, you may be able to enjoy some of the foods you stopped eating.
The important thing is to stay conscious of how certain foods affect you, and adjust your meals accordingly. Good nutrition creates a foundation of health that will last a lifetime.
